About Us
Durban Jewish Social Services has been looking after the needs of the community since its establishment in 1898. As in any other society, Jews need help and support and it is the mission of Social Services to see that no Jewish family is left without a roof over their heads, food on the table and a warm environment for their children.
Jewel House
Durban Jewish Social Services is the umbrella organization under which Jewel House falls. Jewel House offers a home away from home for our most vulnerable community members. Our residents live in a house on the Berea with comfortable accommodation within a loving, safe, happy environment where all their needs are met.
Social Services
Since its inception DJSS has helped 1000’s of families and individuals with food, rent, medication & healthcare. This welfare distribution forms the largest part of our welfare services budget and includes those people who live in its own residential facilities who are unable to pay their way.
